Three Tips for Choosing the Right Orthodontics Treatment

If you have been embarrassed by your smile, then you may be considering orthodontics treatment. There are many orthodontic solutions out there today to help you get the smile of your dreams. No matter what your age is, there are a few tips for choosing the right treatment. Knowing more about orthodontic treatment will help you choose the right one.

Knowing the options

Patients have many options for orthodontic treatment. One of the most common is metal braces. These adhere to the patient’s teeth and come off at the end of treatment. These braces have wires that pull the teeth to the right location. Metal braces can treat many alignment and bite issues.

Another popular option is Invisalign. These are clear aligners that a patient can easily remove at any time. That allows patients to clean their teeth and eat as normal. A patient will receive new aligners every two weeks or so. It is vital for patients to wear these aligners at least 20 to 22 hours each day. That will help the treatment to work well.

Lingual braces are attached to the back of a patient’s teeth instead of the front. This makes the braces nearly invisible. These braces are similar to traditional metal braces with wires and brackets. However, patients who have overbites may not be good candidates for lingual braces. The overbite can place too much pressure on the brackets. That can cause the braces to fall off.

Ceramic braces are another discreet option. The brackets are tooth-colored, making them less noticeable. However, foods and drinks can still stain the brackets. Patients may have more dietary restrictions with ceramic braces. Clear braces are another option, though. The brackets and sometimes even the wires are made of a transparent material, reducing their visibility.

Choosing the right orthodontics treatment for the patient

Not every treatment will work for every patient. For example, many like the idea of Invisalign because the trays can come out. However, Invisalign is not right for every patient and the same goes for other treatment plans too. Only a dentist can tell a patient what type of treatment is right. A dentist can evaluate a patient’s mouth and develop a customized plan. A patient can discuss the pros and cons with the dentist and choose the right plan.

Choosing a dentist

It is a good idea to choose a dentist who offers a comprehensive range of services. The right dentist will care for their patients. Having a good “chairside manner” is important for dentists. Orthodontic care can seem daunting at times. Having someone to soothe any anxiety can go a long way when a patient has concerns.
